The Seismic Interpretation and Smart Competition in IUGC 2026 is an international undergraduate competition focused on evaluating participants’ technical knowledge, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills in geoscience, particularly in seismic interpretation. Open to students from Geophysical Engineering and related geoscience disciplines worldwide, the competition requires participants to process and interpret seismic cross-section datasets provided by the committee and present their findings in a structured scientific proposal. The competition consists of a preliminary interpretation stage and a final presentation stage, emphasizing the application of geophysics and geology knowledge, teamwork, and technical competence. In addition, the Smart Competition Stage serves as the initial online selection phase, where teams answer short-answer questions related to geology and geophysics under strict supervision and time constraints, with advancement determined by scoring performance, accuracy, speed, and compliance with competition rules.
